Review: TransType SE is a simple application designed to convert fonts from one format to another, providing support for popular formats such as TrueType and FontLab. The interface is very clean and intuitive, and it is probably the reason why a developer Hasn help file included in the package, as the Cubs should not have any problems figuring out how to use the program. There are dedicated panel for the source and destination file or resource, both showing family and font name. Of course, the preview screen gives you a hint about how your fonts may look, while a separate panel legend is placed in the bottom of the window. TransType SE works with Mac and BINHEX binary files using the Bean, MACBIN and expansion HQX, TrueType fonts with TTF and TTC extensions, Type1 fonts with PFB and FONTLAB fonts provided in the format of the DMD. It is recommended to look into the settings menu, as well as you can customize the font file naming formats, common conversion options, but also customize each supported format. TransType SE completes the conversion process as soon as possible, but it does not necessarily mean that it's light on hardware resources. For Windows 7, for example, the application seems to slow down slightly each time the system while at the same time intervals with different freezing. In general, however, TransType SE does what he says with a clean look and minimal configuration. Help file will be a great addition though.
